Injury Claim - What To Do If You Are In An Accident

After you are in an automobile accident you must remain at the scene. If you drive away
you could be charged with leaving the scene of an accident even if the car accident is not
your fault.

You and the other driver should exchange your driver's licence information, addresses,
telephone numbers, as well as the car's make, model and the name of the registered owner
of the vehicle's involved.

In the case where the other driver is from out of province, you should obtain the name of
the driver's insurance company, the insurance policy number as well as the insurance
company's address and telephone number.

You should also record the names, addresses, telephone numbers and driver's licences of
each passenger in the other vehicle.

Most importantly, you should record the names, addresses, telephone numbers and
driver's licence of any witness to the collision also ask them to stay and talk to police.
If the witnesses insist on leaving, ask them to tell you what they saw and write it down. If
they drive off, take their license plate numbers down.

Record the badge number of the police officer who attends the accident scene.
Make notes on the weather and road conditions and ask the police officer where you can
get a copy of the accident report.

Take pictures of the of the car accident scene including damage to the vehicles, road
signs, lights and skid marks on the road.

Do not volunteer any information about whose fault the car accident is. You may think
you are in the wrong and then find out the other driver is as much at fault as you are.

You may contact ICBC at 604-520-8222 to report the claim or you can call our offices at
1-604-684-0040 and we will report the accident for you.

We advise you to make an appointment with our Vancouver law firm before you visit an
