COVID-19 and Senior Care Negligence in BC

John Mickelson Law Corporation will assist families of loved ones residing in long term care facilities in British Columbia when the care they received falls short of what is acceptable. We will advocate for changes in care home practices and seek compensation where negligence has occurred.

The current pandemic of COVID-19 places seniors at a higher risk of developing serious illness and in many cases, death. Seniors in care facilities are especially vulnerable due to close proximity quarters, staff management, hygiene and isolation practices.

Adhering to strict practices for infection and disease controls to protect residents of long term care facilities is not limited to the current pandemic crisis alone. Other respiratory and gastrointestinal illness are routinely managed with risk protocols.

In recent weeks the BC provincial government made changes in policy regarding the staffing practices at long term care facilities to curtail the spread of COVID-19 from one facility to another. For many seniors that policy change came too late.

While we believe that front line workers are doing an amazing job in our province, further investigation will be important to determine if risk assessment and care protocols were adequately anticipated and put in place to prevent a widespread outbreak of COVID-19.

If you have any questions or concerns about your loved ones who currently reside in a long term care facility in BC that has been exposed to the COVID-19 Virus, please contact one of our personal injury lawyers at John Mickelson Law Corporation at 604-684-0040.
