Slip and fall into open crawlspace
Our client, a middle aged woman, was at a friend’s new home while cable services were being installed. The layout of the home was unfamiliar to her. Carrying some items obstructed her view as she entered a walk in closet to put the items away and unbeknownst to her, there was a hatch for the crawlspace on the floor that had been left open by the service technician. She fell into the crawlspace. Her most significant injuries were to her knees, which accelerated the degeneration that was pre-existing. She continues to have knee pain that limits her physical activities 3 years after the fall. She was very pleased when we obtained a settlement of $180,000 for her, and the service company has now altered their safety policies to ensure there are warnings in place.
