Spinal Cord Injury

  1. Definition

Spinal cord injuries can be extremely debilitating. They may result in paraplegia or quadriplegia.

Spinal cord injuries can be classified as either complete or incomplete. In a complete spinal cord injury, there is no sensation in areas of the body controlled by parts of the spine below the injury. For incomplete injuries, there is still some sensation in these areas.

  2. Symptoms and Treatment

Much of the treatment for spinal cord injuries focusses on regaining any movement possible, and adjusting one’s lifestyle to adapt to different ability levels and regain independence.

Patients with incomplete spinal cord injuries may require extensive rehabilitative therapy in order to walk or carry out basic tasks.

Additionally, we can arrange for you to receive treatment by kinesiologists, physiotherapists, and massage therapists to help you recover as much as possible. We can arrange for you to receive these services with no initial payment required; these service providers can be paid through your future settlement.

Adjusting to the aftermath of a spinal cord injury can be emotionally exhausting; we can arrange for you to see a psychologist to help you adjust to your injury.
