Heather Bains

Heather is an Associate focusing on ICBC claims, slip and fall claims, disability claims and other injury claims.

She was called to the Bar in 2011 after graduating from the University of British Columbia Law School. She then began working at a full-service law firm in the Fraser Valley where she quickly developed a keen interest for personal injury law.

Keen to pursue this passion, Heather joined John Mickelson Law Corporation in May 2016 and now represents clients across all types of personal injury claims. Her experience means that she is well-versed in dealing with claims of varying size and complexity, and she has even acted on behalf of injured people in both the Supreme Court and the British Columbia Court of Appeal.

Heather has settled a number of large value cases during her career and is known for handling claims that involve brain injuries and multiple sclerosis. In one case she secured $1million compensation for her client who was left with traumatic brain injuries and chronic pain as a result of a motor vehicle accident. She also won upwards of $500,000 for a client who had been denied benefits by their long-term disability provider.

When asked what she enjoys most about her job, Heather says that above all else, she likes being able to advocate for people who are in a vulnerable situation. She is committed to supporting her clients throughout what can often be a difficult time in their lives. This extends above and beyond the legal side of things, as she ensures that her clients have access to the medical treatment and assistance they need.

This compassionate and caring attitude is much appreciated by those she represents, as the testimonial of one former client reveals:

“I couldn’t be happier with the service I received at John Mickelson Law Corp. Heather really helped me through the ICBC claims process and took a massive burden off my shoulders. She truly went above and beyond, all the while maintaining transparency and keeping me informed.”

Having recently welcomed her first child, Heather enjoys spending time with her family, which includes her dog Charlie – a frequent visitor to the office. She also loves hiking, backpacking and swimming with sharks!

She is an Executive Director of the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia.
